The non-metallic garter spring is a compression spring consisting of a two-part metal (a metallic end and a non-metallic body). The spring is designed to prevent leakage by creating a progressive force as the temperature rise, which keeps the oil in the seal. While the metallic end allows for easy installation in most applications, the non-metallic body allows it to withstand the high temperature requirements of its applications.

The two sealing elements are rubber or synthetic-based elastomers. While the rubber element provides an effective seal against oil leakage, the synthetic elastomer gives it extra strength and protection. The synthetic elastomer also provides a temperature stability allowing the seal to function across varying temperature ranges as required.
